Casella Sinfonietta

The Casella Sinfonietta, conducted by Dr. Kevin M. Geraldi, was founded in 2008 as an enhancement to the ensemble offerings in the UNCG School of Music. The ensemble performs a range of works from Gabrieli to Daugherty, functioning on a professional model. The personnel for each semester is determined by the repertoire, allowing the finest performers on wind, brass, string, percussion, and keyboard instruments the highest-level experience possible. Typically, rehearsals begin two weeks prior to a concert, with each piece on the program receiving four or five rehearsals – similar to what students might experience in a professional setting. Faculty and guest soloists frequently appear with the ensemble, and in 2010 the Casella Sinfonietta performed and recorded the world premiere of a new work by UNCG faculty composer Mark Engebretson, and a concerto with UNCG professor of saxophone Steven Stusek.
