Alumni Homecoming Dance Concert

Dance Theater
The UNCG Department of Dance will present its annual Alumni Homecoming Dance Concert on Saturday, September 24, coinciding with the FallFest Celebration. The concert will be held in the Dance Theater in the Health and Human Performance building at 8:00 pm, and will follow with a reception in the lobby. Ticket prices are $12 for general admission, $9 for students and seniors, and $6 for UNCG students. For reservations and information, please call the box office at 336-334-4849.
This year, participating alumni will include:
Heather Doyle (BA, 2007) is an independent artist in Washington, DC. While in North Carolina, she performed with the John Gamble Dance Theater, Informall Theater Company, and Niki Juralewicz. In DC, she has participated in community projects with the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Daniel Burkholder/The Playground, and Dance Box Theater in DC, and has recently performed for mansurdance, Deborah Riley Dance Projects, and the band TiaNina. The NC Dance Project, the Greensboro Fringe Festival, and the Dinner Party as a Fieldwork artist have presented her dances, and in 2009, her duet dyad was performed in parks across Washington, DC during Dance is the Answer. Heather is a teacher of GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®, and supports dance artists as a resident stage manager at Dance Place.
Ali Duffy (MFA, 2009), Assistant Professor of Dance at Texas Tech University, is the Artistic Director and founder of Flatlands Dance Theatre. Ali toured internationally with Stiletto Entertainment prior to graduate study, and has performed in American Dance Festival’s Acts to Follow, The Gates at Central Park. She has danced in the works of Donald McKayle, Martha Williams, Genevieve Durham, and Posy Knight, among others. Her choreography and written research have been presented internationally, and she currently sits on the Dance Critics Association Board of Directors.
Virginia Freeman Dupont (BFA, 1996; MFA, 2003) is Director of the Ballet Program at Burlington Academy of Dance & Arts as well as Artistic Director of KARIZMA, the Academy's non-profit youth performing company. She also teaches ballet and modern dance as adjunct faculty at Elon University and UNCG, and has been performing with the Jan Van Dyke Dance Group and John Gamble Dance Theater since 1995. Dupont holds both an MFA and a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography, as well as a BA in English from the UNCG.
Harper Piver (BFA, 1998) is a dance and multimedia artist based in Phoenix, Arizona. Her choreography has been commissioned and presented by festivals, companies, and universities, and her dance for camera work has been presented in dance film festivals both nationally and internationally. She currently teaches courses in dance and film at Arizona State University and in the Maricopa Community Colleges. To learn more about Harper and her work, please visit www.harperpiver.com.
Jennifer Mitchell Vulpi (MFA, 1992) has presented choreography in New York, Connecticut, Texas, and North Carolina, and organized Dancing for Friends, an event of benefit concerts for the Triad Health Project. Vulpi has received several area arts council grants as well as support from the NC Arts Council. She also received several choreographic commissions from Ballet Nacional, a Hispanic dance company in Texas. A modern dance instructor for over 35 years, Jennifer has taught at the Erick Hawkins School of Dance in New York City, in universities around the country, as well as in private studios, most recently for Greensboro Performing Arts.
