Focus on Gabriel Fauré

To celebrate the glorious piano music of one of the greatest French Romantics, the 17^th UNCG Focus on Piano Literature proudly presents Focus on Gabriel Fauré. Over two and a half days, we will experience

• a recital by renowned pianist Monique Duphil featuring the Ballade and the beloved Quartet in C minor
• lectures by leading Fauré scholar Carlo Caballero on Fauré’s piano music
• lectures by UNCG professors Porter Aichele and Anthony Cuda on the artistic and literary world in which Fauré lived
• a performance festival of Fauré’s solo and chamber music by UNCG artist faculty, including a recreation of an all-Fauré concert given at the Société Nationale in 1905
• further performances of many nocturnes, a song cycle, violin sonatas, and a trio; and selected organ works
• a master class with Monique Duphil featuring advanced students from the UNCG School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
• performances by gifted younger students from across North Carolina
• a listening session featuring recordings by one of the greatest Fauré interpreters, Germaine Thyssens-Valentin
• an interactive panel discussion in which our guest experts will discuss questions raised by the registrants
• convivial gatherings of passionate music-lovers inspired by the great masterpieces of the piano literature
