Focus on Gabriel Fauré


To celebrate the glorious piano music of one of the greatest French Romantics, the 17th UNCG Focus on Piano Literature proudly presents Focus on Gabriel Fauré. Over two and a half days, we will experience
- a recital by renowned pianist Monique Duphil featuring the Ballade and the beloved Quartet in C minor
- lectures by leading Fauré scholar Carlo Caballero on Fauré’s piano music
- lectures by UNCG professors Porter Aichele and Anthony Cuda on the artistic and literary world in which Fauré lived
- a performance festival of Fauré’s solo and chamber music by UNCG artist faculty, including a recreation of an all-Fauré concert given at the Société Nationale in 1905
- further performances of many nocturnes, a song cycle, violin sonatas, and a trio; and selected organ works
- a master class with Monique Duphil featuring advanced students from the UNCG School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
- performances by gifted younger students from across North Carolina
- a listening session featuring recordings by one of the greatest Fauré interpreters, Germaine Thyssens-Valentin
- an interactive panel discussion in which our guest experts will discuss questions raised by the registrants
- convivial gatherings of passionate music-lovers inspired by the great masterpieces of the piano literature
