Theatre at UNCG

The UNCG Department of Theatre runs on the energy and adrenaline of over 320 undergraduate and graduate students in various degree programs, 25 part- and full-time faculty members and 6 support staff. Our people truly embody the collaborative nature of theatre! We provides a myriad of educational opportunities to our students through the instruction and guidance of our knowledgeable faculty and staff members. One of our greatest strengths is the wide knowledge base our instructors have in many different areas of theatre, offering practical experience in a variety of theories and practices. The performance faculty has members who specialize in such schools of thought as Michael Chekhov, Sanford Meisner, Katherine Fitzmaurice, the Alexander Technique, contact improvisation, and more. Our design faculty has instructors who have extensive knowledge and training in mask-making, stage makeup, puppetry, welding, etc. We have memberships in over 10 national theatre industry organizations such as ACTF, USITT, SETC, TCG, and AATE, all of which provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to keep abreast of new trends in theatre and to provide opportunities for professional networking and showcasing of work. Students also have continual opportunities to meet and attend classes of our industry's leading contributors: guests, guest artists, and professionals provide workshops, master classes, class visitation, and informal and formal presentations for our student body. UNCG Theatre is partnered with the North Carolina Theatre for Young People and Theatre 232.
