Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting degree in the Department of Theatre at UNCG is a comprehensive program for the student of outstanding promise and motivation whose goal is a career in theatre, film, and television. Entry into this selective program is competitive – all acting undergraduates enroll at UNCG as a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. At the end of the fall semester of the freshman year, students audition for entry into the BFA program. Once admitted to the BFA track, students embark on a range of intensive classes in acting, voice, movement, stage combat, and acting for the camera, along with courses in theatre history, technical theatre, and general liberal arts courses. The department’s long associations with the professional companies Triad Stage and the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival provide opportunities for BFA actors working toward their professional goals. BFA Acting students are cast each semester in a significant role in a UNCG Theatre production, and are required to complete professional internships, audition for summer theatre work, and, at the end of the senior year, to audition for work with entertainment industry producers and agents in a New York Showcase as an entrée into the acting profession.
