Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Theatre Education

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Theatre Education degree prepares qualified undergraduates to become effective professional theatre educators at the elementary (K-5, middle (6-8), and secondary (9-12) levels. BFA in Theatre Education majors explore a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum that includes the study of all areas of theatre and coursework in professional education within the context of the liberal arts. Courses include all areas of theatre, including: acting, voice, directing, drama in education, theatre history, set and costume construction, stage makeup application, and all areas of design: scene, lighting, and costumes. To be accepted into the BFA Theatre Education program students must first be admitted to the University, after which they must be admitted to the Teachers Academy before officially categorized as BFA in Theatre Education majors. BFA in Theatre Education majors must accumulate a minimum of 100 verified hours of pre-student teaching observation and field experience in local-area classrooms (35 of these hours must be completed before applying to the Teachers Academy.) Student teaching is the culmination of the BFA in Theatre Education major’s training. BFA in Theatre Education majors are required to complete 15 weeks of student teaching with 10 weeks of full control of the cooperating teacher’s classes during their final spring semester at UNCG.
